How is a furisode different from other kimonos?
It is the most formal kimono carried by young Japanese women with long oscillating sleeves, the length of the sleeves can vary in length between 85 cm for a kofurisode which means short sleeve oscillating at 114 cm for an ōfurisode meaning big furisode.

The story of Furisode
A furisode is a style of Kimono usually worn by young Japanese women and often associated with formal events such as marriages, adulthood festivals, religious festivals and other important events of Japanese culture.

The difference between a fury and other kimonos lies in the long oscillating sleeves, short-sleeved kimonos are called Tomesode. There are different types of kimonos furisode that are distinguished by the length of the sleeves: ofurisode - about 114 cm, chugurisode - about 100 - 95 cm, kofurisode - about 85 cm.

This kimono was popular with men and women and the drawings and patterns of color were the same in the man and wife versions of the Kimono.

In recent years, it is now considered a female kimono carried by single women for special events, while married Japanese women wear a Kimono Tomesode for formal occasions.

The Furisode, although not necessarily known by its name, is the most famous kimono outside of Japan, recognized by all the images of Maiko standing with their long oscillating sleeves.

Famous worn by Maiko
Maiko is an apprentice Geisha in Kyoto and west of Japan. Maiko means "Dancing Child" and they managed to dance and interpret songs and play traditional Japanese instruments like Shamisen during holidays and banquets, called Ozashiki.
